Leo F. Rayfiel

Leo Frederick Rayfiel ( born March 22, 1888 in New York City; † November 18, 1978 in Wayne, New Jersey) was an American lawyer and politician. Between 1945 and 1947 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Leo Frederick Rayfiel attended primary school ( Grade School ) and high school in New York City. In 1908, he graduated from New York University Law School. His admission to the bar he received in 1918 and then began practicing in Brooklyn. Between 1939 and 1944 he sat in the New York State Assembly. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party.

In the congressional elections of 1944 for the 79th Congress Rayfiel in the 14th electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Arthur George Klein on January 4, 1945. In 1946 he was elected to the 80th Congress, but resigned on September 13, 1947 back because of an appointment as a judge of his seat.

He was a judge on the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York - a position which he held until his death. On November 18, 1978, he died in Wayne and was then buried in the Ward Cemetery in Farmingdale well.
