Leo Rajendram Antony

Leo Rajendram Antony ( born April 18, 1927 in Karamban; † December 3, 2012 in Trincomalee, Sri Lanka) was Bishop of Trincomalee - Batticaloa.

Life

Leo Antony joined on 8 January 1940 at the age of 13 years in the minor seminary of St. Martin in Jaffna; 1948 in the Seminary of St. Bernard in Borella, Colombo. He studied theology and philosophy at the Collegio urbano de Propaganda Fide in Rome. The Secretary of the Congregation de Propaganda Fide, Pietro Sigismondi, consecrated him on December 7, 1954 in Rome, a priest of the diocese of Jaffna. After pastoral work, he was established in 1958 Personal Secretary of Ignatius Glennie SJ, Bishop of Trincomalee. 1962 he was appointed spiritual director of Rosarians in Tholagatty and pastor of Vasavilan. In 1966 he took over the parish of St. Mary's Cathedral in Jaffna.

Pope Paul VI. appointed him on August 3, 1968 Titular Bishop of Fissiana and Titular Bishop of Fissiana. The Bishop of Jaffna, Jerome Emilianus Pillai OMI, gave him on 21 November 1968, the episcopal ordination; Were co-consecrators Ignatius Glennie SJ, Bishop of Trincomalee, and Frank Marcus Fernando, Coadjutor Bishop of Chilaw.

On 18 December 1972 he was appointed Coadjutor Bishop of Trincomalee - Batticaloa. After the retirement of Ignatius Glennie SJ he followed him on 15 February 1974 after the Bishop of Trincomalee - Batticaloa. On March 17, 1983 Pope John Paul II accepted his premature resignation.
