Leonard Blavatnik

Leonard Blavatnik (Russian Леонид Валентинович Блаватник; Leonid Valentinovich Blavatnik, born June 14, 1957 in Moscow, Soviet Union ) is an American billionaire. He immigrated with his family at the age of 21 years in 1978 from the Soviet Union to the United States of America. He lives in New York and London.

Study

He began studying at the State University of Transport Moscow. After his immigration he made at Columbia University with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) and a Bachelor of Science ( B.Sc.). In 1989 he made at the Harvard Business School 's Master of Business Administration (MBA).

Investments

In 1986 he founded his holding company Access Industries. Because of his friendship with Viktor Vekselberg both founded the Access - Renova Holding in 1991. In 1996 Tyumen Oil ( TNK ), one of the largest Russian oil companies taken over. Tyumen Oil was introduced in 2003 in a joint venture with British Petroleum ( BP ) ( TNK -BP).

In the 1990s, Vekselberg and Blavatnik involved in the Russian aluminum industry. In 1996 they formed from the Siberian - Urals Aluminium Company ( SUAL ), which was merged with RUSAL and Glencore the largest aluminum company RUSAL in February 2007.

In August 2005, Access Industries involved in chemical company Basell. In May 2008, a share of 18.94 per cent stake in Air Berlin was taken. These shares were sold again in January 2009.

In May 2011, Access Industries bought Warner Music Group for $ 3.3 billion.

Property

In July 2004, Blavatnik auctioned against a bid by the Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich for 41 million pounds sterling (about 100 million U.S. dollars ) a house in 15a Kensington Palace Gardens. The house was built in 1854 by James Knowles and has ten bedrooms, nine bathrooms, four reception rooms.

Leonard Blavatnik bought numerous properties in New York City: In 2005, he bought the Ziegler House (2 East 63rd Street) for nearly 31 million U.S. dollars. Mid-2007, he bought the Bronfman Townhouse for 50 million U.S. dollars and another City Apartment for 27 million U.S. dollars.

With assets of 11.9 billion U.S. dollars in March 2012, he was ranked number 72 of the list of "The World's Billionaires " of "Forbes Magazine".

Philanthropic

  • In recent years, Blavatnik support Israel in the organization Kolel Chabad that distributes from its headquarters in Kiryat Mal'achi from monthly food packages to about 5,000 poor families in 25 cities across the country. On major Jewish holidays up to 30,000 families in 73 Israeli cities and villages are supported by funds from the Food Bank.
  • In 2010 Blavatnik announced the donation of £ 75 million to the University of Oxford. The Blavatnik School of Government in 2012 took on their first year and the University erected a new building since 2012 with the use of 26 million pounds of equity. The buildings were designed by the Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron. First dean of the School is the New Zealand professor Ngaire Woods.
