Lézat

Lézat is a commune in the French department of Jura in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Lézat is located on 724 m above sea level. M., about 13 km north- northeast of the town of Saint- Claude ( straight line ). The village is located in the Jura, a scenic location on a terrace on a sunny hillside about 180 m above the deep river of Bienne, south of the Forêt de la Joux Devant.

The area of ​​5.75 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The southern boundary runs along the Bienne, which flows here in an erosion valley with several turns to the southwest. From the river, the municipality's area extends northward through a wooded and traversed by bands of rock slope on the terrace of Lézat and the boss of Les Mouilles. This is followed in the north on the ridge of the Bois de la Pontoise (940 m above sea level. M. ) and the Bois des Ecolets. This ridge, which forms an anticline of the Jura Mountains, part of the broad forest back of the Forêt de la Joux Devant. With 1115 m above sea level. M. is reached on the top of the Bois des Ecolets the highest elevation of Lézat. The area of Lézat is part of the Parc Naturel Régional du Haut- Jura.

To Lézat include the hamlet of Les Mouilles (865 m above sea level. M. ) on a ridge above the valley of Bienne and various individual courtyards. Neighboring communities of Grande -Rivière Lézat are in the north, and Morbier La Mouille in the east, the south and Longchaumois Villard -sur -Bienne and Château -des- Prés in the West.

History

The village belonged in the Middle Ages to the parish of La Rixouse. In the 18th century it was the site of a forge.

Population

With 183 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Lézat one of the small towns in the Jura. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1886 234 persons were still counted ), a significant population increase has been recorded since the end of the 1970s again. Since then, the population has nearly tripled.

Economy and infrastructure

Lézat was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by agriculture, especially livestock and dairy farming, as well as by the forestry village. In addition, there are today some of the local small business enterprises. Meanwhile, the village has also changed into a residential community. Many workers are commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road that leads from Morbier La Rixouse. Another road connection with Château -des- Prés.
