Lichynia

Lichinia (Polish Lichynia ) is a village in the bilingual Polish community Leschnitz ( Leśnica ) in the powiat Strzelecki of the Opole Voivodeship.

Geography

Lichinia is located approximately 35 kilometers southeast of Opole and 3 kilometers east of Leschnitz in the historic Upper Silesia. Through the village street Lichina flows on the eastern outskirts the steering Auer water ( Łącka Woda ).

History

The name of this village is from the word " lichy " (bad) derived what should be connected to the low quality of the soil. For the first time Lichinia was mentioned in 1223 as Lichan. 1455, the village was called Lichinya and 1534 as Lichina. Later the name Lichinia prevailed. From 1936 to 1945, the town took the name of light forest.

1410 denied the Opole Duke Bolko IV with his brother Bernard to grain from Lichinia, Salesche and Leschnitz. The farmers from Lichinia were obliged to forced labor in the Vorwerk of Salesche. The subsequent history of Lichinia was closely associated with the adjacent Slawentzitz. A calculation of the properties of Slawentzitz from 1576 called the place Lichinia. These commodities changed hands several times. In 1782 it passed into the hands of the Hohenlohe family, was a resident there until 1945.

1783 Lichinia counted 141 inhabitants. From 1816 to 1945 the town belonged to the district of Cosel. 1817 this number rose to 296 Even then, there was a school for the local children. 1843, a water mill, a lime kiln and brickworks were recorded. In 1861 there were 728 inhabitants in Lichinia, 1910 692 and 1996 468

In the plebiscite in Upper Silesia on 20 March 1921 which was accompanied in the area of civil wars, voted in the village and Good Lichinia total of 262 persons to remain in Germany and 171 for Poland. Lichinia remained as the entire voting district Cosel the German Reich. From 1933 the new Nazi rulers large-scale renaming of place names of Slavic origin conducted. 1936, the village name was changed to Lichinia light forest.

1945 was the place as Lichynia to Poland.

For centuries Lichinia belonged to the parish in Salesche. The inhabitants of the village now have their own church of St. Joseph.

In 2006, the Gmina Leschnitz, the Lichinia as the district belongs, German as an auxiliary language, and in 2008 a bilingual place names.
