Licola (Victoria)

Licola is a place in Victoria, Australia, located on the Licola Road in the Shire of Wellington, 254 kilometers east of Melbourne.

The place is the southern gateway to the Alpine National Park.

Employment create tourism, forestry and agriculture. In the village is a trading house, a post office and a gas station and a few houses. It is the only place in Victoria, which has no connection to electrical network. The place is frequented by bikers, campers and hikers.

The Lions Club is the owner of a large land area at Licola where he runs a youth camp that is surrounded by agriculturally cultivated land.

The first post office was renamed on September 14, 1908 and 1912 in Glenfalloch. Reopened the post office in the years of 1914-1919, 1920-1923 and 1954-1993.

In July 2007 water masses focused in and around Licola to major damage to roads, farms and in the area of the National Park. The main road to Heyfield was then closed for two months and the listed Cheynes Bridge was destroyed and had to be recreated.
