Line 3 (Saint Petersburg Metro)

Line 3 of the Metro St Petersburg, also Newsko - Vasileostrovskaya line called (Russian Невско - Василеостровская линия ) was opened on November 3, 1967, and connects the historic center of St. Petersburg, where it follows the complete Nevsky Prospect course, with the residential areas of the Vasilievsky Island in the West or with the southern districts along the left bank of the Neva river in the southeast.

The line is marked on all maps of the St. Petersburg metro green and today is usually just as line 3 and only rarely with the name Newsko - Vasileostrovskaya - line (which is borrowed from its course by the down Nevsky Prospekt to Vasilievsky Island ) referred to.

History

The first section of the line, which went into operation on 3 November 1967 and joined the Alexander Nevsky Square ( Alexander Nevsky Square ) at the eastern end of the Nevsky Prospect on the selfsame with the Vasilievsky Island, where initially only the station Vasileostrovskaya was built. A total of four stations were built, the two intermediate stations of the section were also built as transfer stations to the two existing metro lines.

On 25 December 1970, the line was extended to the southeast to Lomonossowskaja. Both the first and the second phase of construction of the line contained only called stations closed type with a separate from the tracks by automatic platform doors island platform.

On September 29, 1979, opened on Vasilievsky Island, the station Primorskaya, the first stop on the line without platform screen doors. To date, Primorskaya serves as the terminus of line 3 in the West.

Later there were two extensions of the line 3 to the southeast: On July 10, 1981 by Lomonossowskaja to Obukhovo and on 28 December 1984, a station further up Rybazkoje. Both in Obukhovo and in Rybazkoje emerged interchanges to the trains of the suburban.

Planning

Medium to long term is an extension of the line at the southeast end up in the suburb Metallostroi and possibly later on planned to Kolpino. An extension to the west seemed a long time due to the ending of the line excluded a few hundred meters before the Newabucht, but now there are plans to link the is under construction artificial distribution in the bay, where residential and office district to be built with a station. Maybe the line is still, to the north snapping off, continued to cross the island.

A new building projects on the line 3 is a connection to the station Admiralteiskaja at the western end of Nevsky Prospect, whereby the previously missing transfer possibility would arise to line 5. With the construction of Umsteigeknotens is not to be expected in the next few years as several months separating the line would be necessary for the subsequent construction of the Admiralteiskaja on line 3. The station would get on the line 3 monument protection laws, no independent access, but be accessible via the common line 5 vestibule.
