The line 2, called Moskowsko - Petrogradskaja Line (Russian Московско - Петроградская линия ), with over 30 kilometers the longest line of the Metro St Petersburg. It runs in the urban area of St.-Petersburg from north to south over the old town, where she crosses the Nevsky Prospect with the Metro Station among others. In the line plans of the Metro St Petersburg Moskowsko - Petrogradskaja line is shown in blue.

History

Line 2 was opened on 29 April 1961 some five years after the commissioning of which now belong to the line 1 first phase of the Leningrad underground, opened, making it the second oldest line in Russia's second largest city metro system. In 1961 finished track it was the portion of the line of Technologitscheski Institute to Park Pobedy with five new stations at a distance of 6.5 km. At the time, serving as the northern terminus of the line station Technologitscheski institute a transitional option between the two lines was created by building a parallel to the existing namesake train line 1 applied Bahnsteighalle and corresponding crossovers, in which you can change in the same direction without platform changes. Both stations are served by trains on both lines and have a common entrance building.

On 1 July 1963, the line was extended north to Petrogradskaja and thus out of the inner city of Leningrad, including a tunnel under the Neva River in this area.

In the next renewal on 25 December 1969, the line was 2 at its southern end with another station Moskovskaya. This station is spatially until today the international airport Pulkovo next, so here is a transfer point for the buses was set up from the airport terminals.

On 25 December 1972, the section went up to the present southern terminus Kupchino in operation. The latter was on one level in a covered concourse and provided with direct interchanges for the same station of suburban trains ( inter alia, Pushkin and Pavlovsk direction ). South Metro Station Kupchino the train depot Moskowskoje was put into operation.

After the line was several times extended to the North: On November 6, 1982, the section went from Petrogradskaja to Udelnaya (the latter was also a change junctions between the metro and regional trains ) in operation on August 19, 1988 followed by the stations Ozerki and prospectus Prosweschtschenija. North of the latter, the custodian Wyborgskoje including a 1.3 km long access route was built until February 2000. On this route was created on 22 December 2006 retrospectively Metro Station Parnas, built like Kupchino single storey in a self-contained building.

Depot and vehicles

The body responsible for Moskowsko - Petrogradskaja Line train depot is Moskowskoje near the station Kupchino. In 2000 built depot Wyborgskoje at the northern end of the line are traits of line 5, which so far does not have a depot, parked and waited.

The fleet of the line consists of two trains of the series 81-717/714 including a recent modification of the selfsame. Technically, the trains of this type correspond to the same vehicles from the Metro Wagon mash - plant near Moscow, for Leningrad and later the St. Petersburg Metro they were however made in the Wagon -mash factory located here.

A special feature of line 2 is that some of their stations are called stations closed type with a separate area from the track by platform screen doors hall. At these stations the existing trains can only hold a maximum of six cars. Therefore, take the line 2 to today only six car sets, which systematically provides despite extremely high stroke density on the line ( 90 seconds at peak times ) for overcrowded trains.
