Linescio

Linescio is a municipality in the district Rovana, in the district of Valle Maggia the canton of Ticino in Switzerland.

Geography

The town is located 26 km north-west of Locarno on the rocks to the left side of the Rovana. The western boundary of the municipality leads from Madone di Camedo ( 2'446 m asl. ) In a slightly south-easterly direction - usually the stream Ri di Fraccia along - down to Rovana. After crossing it she goes into a southwest curve up to Pizzo Sascola ( 2,057 m above sea level. M. ). Down its eastern slope she meets the hamlet Rotanda ( 1,268 m above sea level. M. ) and runs north back to Rovana. Beyond which it leads shortly to the northeast, before she strikes a north-westerly direction up to the Costone di Camedo ( 2'121 m above sea level. M. ). From there, the short northern boundary leads westwards back to the Madone di Camedo. Are the main settlements strung together on the road from Cevio direction Cimalmotto ( municipality of Campo (Valle Maggia ) ) and from east to west Ponte Asciutto, Linescio di Fuori, Linescio ( (708 m asl. ) (700 m asl. ) - village) (664 m above sea level. M. ) and Linescio di Dentro ( 677 m above sea level. M. ). Above these districts are the hamlets Bolla ( 1,020 m above sea level. M. ) and Monte ( 1,093 m above sea level. M. ). The only significant settlement in the municipality on the right bank of the Rovana is Faido (700 m above sea level. M. ). But there are other groups of houses and farmsteads. Apart from the main settlement is at the hamlets mostly Alps, which are not occupied. Of the total area of 658 ha community only 1.5 % of agricultural land and 1.2 % is urbanized area. Nearly two-thirds of the community, just 65.6 % are covered by forest and woodland and 31.7 % are non-productive area (mostly mountains).

History

The municipality is autonomous only since 1858. Previously, she was one of Cevio.

Population

Despite the limited land the place grew to 1870 to 265 residents. This prompted the overseas emigration to California and Australia. The large decline in population continued until the year 2000 ( 1870-2000: 87.9 %). The first wave of emigration (1860-1939) led to overseas, the second in other regions of Ticino (since 1950). In recent years, a few people wandered about, so that the worst of the population (for now) is history. Emigration was also due to a drought. After several months without water was the Raising of sheep and goats, the priority for this region livestock is no longer possible.

Languages

The population speak a regional variety of Italian, which differs greatly from the high-level language. This was at the last census, 81.25 % ( 1970 93.98 %) as the main language. Due to the migration of the locals and the immigration of some German-speaking Swiss, the proportion of German-speaking in 1970 of 3.61 % increased to 18.75 % by 2000.

Religions - faiths

In earlier times the entire population belonged to the Roman Catholic Church. By leaving the church and immigration, this has changed. Today ( as of 2000) are 75 % Roman Catholic and 3:12 % Evangelical Protestant Christians. In addition, one finds 18.75 % non-religious.

Origin - Nationality

Of the 42 residents in late 2004 were 38 ( 90.48 %), Swiss nationals. At the last census was 90.63 % Swiss citizens and 9:37 Italian nationals.

Policy

The council consists of three members. The mayor is Corrado Moretti (2009).

Economy

Previously, the population of Agriculture, Livestock and the stone processing ( gneiss degradation) lived. Because of the lack of opportunities emigrated in the 19th century many residents to California and Australia. The locals now work mostly outside the village in commercial and service occupations. After the peasant class was quite extinct, are active since 2005 two people in agriculture. Of the 18 employed residents work 14 away.

Traffic

Linescio is connected through the postal bus Cevio-Bosco/Gurin respectively Cevio - Cimalmotto grid of public transport. Since only a few cars a day post run, the younger residents inevitably use their private car to be mobile.
