Lion-sur-Mer

Lion-sur- Mer is a commune with 2641 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the department of Calvados in the Basse -Normandie. The beginnings of Lion-sur- Mer date back to the times of Julius Caesar. Since the 12th century Lion was a harbor town and lived a long time on fishing. In the 19th century Lion-sur- Mer became a seaside resort. The resort is known for its pure sea air and its beautiful sandy beach. Worth seeing, especially the Renaissance castle, the church of Saint -Pierre ( tower from the 11th century) and the villas from the 19th century.
