Liptovská Lúžna

Liptovská Lúžna ( until 1927 slovak " Lúžna "; Hungarian Lúzsna ) is a municipality in Okres Ružomberok within the Žilinský in Slovakia with about 2,900 inhabitants.

Geography

The community is located along the small brook Lúžňanka, a right tributary of the Revúca which in turn is a tributary of the Waag and is situated in a narrow valley in the Low Tatras. To the west is the neighboring village Liptovská Osada, where there are connections by Ružomberok (distance 20 km ), to the east the road leads to Prievalec Pass ( 1100 m nm), this ends after the mountain range in Partizánska Ľupča.

History

The place is in comparison with other municipalities relatively young and was founded in 1670 at the instigation of István Thokoly, the owner of the castle Likava to the manor belonged to the area. The then mainly populated by Highlanders, who came from the Arwa at the former Hungarian northern border city got in 1682 a wooden church, which was dedicated to the Assumption. This was in 1848 replaced by the present Church of the Holy Trinity. The population was primarily involved with farming and sheep farming. There were also mining and specifically also bear hunt, which is also shown on the coat of arms.

To date, the popular architecture is mostly preserved with characteristic wooden houses, as well as wearing local garb. Liptovská Lúžna is a tourist starting point to various destinations in the Low Tatras National Park.
