Liptovský Hrádok

Liptovsky Hradok ( until 1927 slovak " Hrádok "; German rarely Liptau- Hradek, outdated also Neuhäusel in Liptau, Hungarian Liptóújvár ) is a town in central Slovakia, with 7555 inhabitants ( 31 December 2011). It is the tourist center of the upper Liptautales.

It was mentioned in 1341 as Ujwar for the first time in writing. Still belongs to her the place Dovalovo (1971 amalgamated ). At the beginning of the 19th century, the city was equipped with commercial and municipal privileges. This allowed trade with regional products such as timbers, shingles, salt, iron, copper, cheese products, dried plums, herbs and medicinal oils as well as weapons. These products were transported by rafts on the Waag to the southwest to the Danube.

From the town of Liptovsky Hradok the hiking areas in the central and eastern part of the Low Tatras are easy to reach.

In the urban area of ​​the River Bela flows in the recently formed from White and Black Vah Vah Vah river. The Waag in turn flows about 350 kilometers downstream into the Danube.
