History

Lissakowsk was founded in 1950 as a settlement around an iron ore mining combine, it received city status in 1971. The city is a fox in the emblem, since its name with the corresponding Russian word лиса / lissa is associated. Nevertheless, it was not far from the city today since the beginning of the 20th century a village called Lyssakowka, later also in the spelling Lissakowka whose name more on the family name Lyss ( j) ak due is derived from the Russian word лысый / Lyssy for bald or balding. At the time the town was founded the village no longer existed, or it went under with the development of the mine. The original meaning of the name was considered for the new city as inappropriate.

The cityscape is dominated by a large television tower, reminiscent of the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
