Rudny, Kazakhstan

Rudnyi ( Kazakh and Russian Рудный ) is a city on the river Tobol in the area Qostanai in Kazakhstan. It was founded in 1957 and has approximately 124,000 inhabitants.

Population

Of the 124 098 inhabitants of the city are 59.1 percent Russians, Kazakhs, 19.7 percent and 21.2 percent of other nationalities, including Kasachstandeutsche.

History

The city was founded on August 30, 1957 instead of the earlier workers' settlement.

Economy

The economy is dominated by mining operations. There are large deposits of iron ore, and bauxite mines and in the immediate vicinity of a reservoir for power generation in the near vicinity.

Sports

The Hockey team Gornjak participates in the Kazakh Cup.
