List of ships attacked by Somali pirates
Since the beginning of the Somali civil war, the problem of piracy against the international merchant shipping off the Somali coast. Since 2005, the dimension of the problem and the frequency of attacks, however, have increased significantly, so that many international organizations have as inter alia the International Maritime Organization and the World Food Program, their concern about the problem expressed. The following list of the attacked by Somali pirates ships contains all the raids since the year 2005. Resolution adopted on the proposal of the United Kingdom by the Security Council of the United Nations in 1844 of 20 November 2008 contains sanctions against the Somali government due to their passive attitude towards the organized piracy. The Somali government, however, due to serious internal problems, including the fight against Islamism towards the problem largely powerless.
