Planning

Currently, various plans for new stations along the existing lines are in discussion:

  • The Regional Council has a proposed Western Corridor Plan, which the connections in the area of Kapiti should be improved. For this purpose, two new stations will be built. Raumati Station, originally planned for 2009, is to the south of the station Paraparaumu station to be built, possibly. Between the junction with National Highway 1 and the Poplar Avenue The station Lindale, originally planned for 2010, will be part of a larger Umsteigeknotens north of the station from Paraparaumu, this, however, a further expansion of electrification would be required. The Western Corridor plan has so far not implemented and instead decided in 2007 to electrify the line to Waikanae. In the course of the Paraparaumu and Waikanae stations were expanded and the latter station is now connected to the network suburb of Wellington. These steps were completed in February 2011 would not have been planned in the Western Corridor plan for the next twenty years.
  • The Hutt Corridor Plan suggests a electrification and expansion of service north of Upper Hat, with two new stations Timberlea and Cruickshank Road. In December 2012, the Regional Council decided to pursue the plan.
  • There are plans for a new station between Porirua and Paremata to connect the Aotea area, one station south of the Takapu Road ( for the connection of Glenside and other development areas in Johnsonville ), a station between Paekakariki and the planned station Raumati ( near McKay 's Crossing ), and even an underground station in Tawa tunnel ( to connect Newlands above). These plans, however, are not included in the Western Corridor plan.

Also, there are plans for the decommissioning of stations in order to increase the travel times of trains due to the loss of hold. Stood in the discussion that either Redwood or Takapu Road could be closed down, or Pukerua Bay or Muri since the remaining stations can cover the area sufficiently. These proposals, however, are included in the plan and not the Western Corridor.
