Pukerua Bay

Pukerua Bay is a suburb of Porirua at the southern end of the Kapiti Coast in New Zealand. It is located about 30 km north of Wellington. At the census the town had 1996 1.665, 2001 1.692 2006 1.722 inhabitants and. The town has two railway stops.

Most of the houses in Pukerua Bay are on a saddle between two hills that rise about 60-80 m above sea level. The coast around the town is very steep and behind the two beach areas is only room for a few houses. Two trails lead five kilometers south to the area between Pukerua Bay and Plimmerton, which at the railway line along a rocky on the coast and the other.

Pukerua Bay is the birthplace of director Peter Jackson ( Lord of the Rings ). Jackson's first film ( Bad Taste ) was filmed here.

In Māori Pukerua the word means " two hills ".
