LluÃs MartÃnez Sistach
Cardinal Lluís Martínez Sistach ( born April 29, 1937 in Barcelona, Spain) is Archbishop of Barcelona.
Life
Lluís Martínez Sistach was a seminarian at the Pontifical Spanish College of St. Joseph and received on 17 September 1961, the sacrament of Holy Orders.
On November 6, 1987, Pope John Paul II appointed titular bishop of Aliezira and auxiliary bishop in Barcelona. He received his episcopal consecration on December 27, 1987 Narciso Cardinal Jubany Arnau. Co-consecrators were the archbishops Mario Tagliaferri and Ramon Torrella Cascante.
On May 17, 1991, he was appointed Bishop of Tortosa and on 20 February 1997 Archbishop of Tarragona. On 15 June 2004 he finally succeeded Cardinal Ricardo María Carles Gordo after the Archbishop of Barcelona.
24 November 2007 it took Benedict XVI. as cardinal priest with the titular church of San Sebastiano Catacombs at all in the College of Cardinals. 2012, Cardinal Martínez Sistach honorary doctorate from the Stefan- Wyszinski University in Warsaw. Following the resignation of Benedict XVI. He participated in the conclave of 2013.
He is Grand Prior of the Lieutenancy of the Equestrian Order of Spain -Orient by the Holy grave in Jerusalem.
