Loca (Shakira song)

Loca is a song by Colombian singer Shakira. The English version of the song with the British rapper Dizzee Rascal as a duet partner was released on 10 September 2010 as the first single from her seventh studio album Sale el sol.
Background
Loca was actually an interpretation of El CATAS song Loca con su tiguere. Shakira changed the melody, gave the song new beats and wrote the lyrics to. The piece mixes influences from the Latin pop with pop and hip- hop elements. With rappers as duet partners Shakira followed a trend that Beyoncé, Rihanna and other artists had begun.
On cooperation Dizzee Rascal said in an interview with Billboard.com:
" She's a bit of a trendsetter - she does loads of different things on a major scale. [ ... ] You'd expect her to use an American rapper [ for the song], but she chose me. It Meant a lot. [ ... ] I'd like to be in did Spanish market. I got into the whole reggaeton thing When it came out, so I always wanted to get around to something like that. "
" She's like a trendsetter - it makes a lot of different things at a high level. [ ... ] It is expected that it would take an American rapper [ for the song ], but she chose me out. That meant a lot to me. [ ... ] I wanted to in the Spanish market. I liked the whole reggaeton stuff ever since it came up, and therefore wanted to always do something in that direction. "
On October 4, 2010, another version was released in Spanish with El Cata as duet partners.
Criticism
Sara D Anderson from Aol Radio Blog characterized the song as a " die-hard merengue beats and techno percussion " and wrote that " Shakira her husband courting with Locas hypnotic chorus, the British rapper Dizzee Rascal will deliver a remarkable rap interlude, the show, that he had been taken in fact by a " crazy girl " ".
Monica Herrara wrote in the magazine Billboard that " Shakira with her new single ' Loca ' more attention to tropical music lege ," the song opens up with a " pounding merengue beat" accompanied by the " seductive breathy Ultimatum ' Dance or Die ' ".
The Sun Daily verdict: " Recorded in the Dominican Republic, Shakira brings in the production of ' Loca ' is the one for her typical different musical identities through the mixing of [ ... ] elements of merengue with danceable techno percussions [ ... ]. "
Commercial success
During the week of October 14, 2010 Loca debuted at number 98 on the Billboard Hot 100, the song was Shakira's ninth number -one hit on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs. It was also Shakira's ninth placing in the top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100, it reached 6 November 2010 No. 32, an improvement compared to last week alone by the number of downloads to 52 positions.
In the Swiss charts Loca debuted at # 2 and achieved a week later on October 31, 2010 Place 1 Furthermore, the song was a number -one hit in Italy, France, Greece and Spain.
Music Video
The music video was filmed in August 2010 during a visit to Barcelona. The director was like all Shakira videos Jaume de Laiguana. On 29 September 2010, the music video was officially released worldwide. As the New York Post reported, to the city of Barcelona are considering Shakira to impose a fine because it paralyzed traffic in the city for the video shoot. Shakira had danced without official approval in a public fountain and riding a motorcycle without a helmet to wear. For Shakira is the video of it, " to have fun and to be at this exciting place with real people ."
Reception
Walter Frazier from Billboard magazine describes the video: " In keeping with the theme of the song Shakira dances in a fountain, and so attracted the attention of passers-by ( it is just Shakira ). It is not surprising that some of them join in the fun and jump in the well. At the end of the song Shakira dancing surrounded by fans in open water. This is Shakira - she's crazy, but we like it ".
James Montgomery from MTV said about the video: "It's a guerrilla -like endeavor to do it with a budget close to zero (up to a performance scene, everything seems to have been filmed with hand-held cameras ). The Britney, Beyonce and Gaga would probably never do something like that ... and yet it mostly works because it looks after what would Shakira do. ' Loca ' is one of the few videos that is not striving to outdo the accompanying song, but it supports. The ' Loca' video is calculated madness, a vibrant boundless energy as they can create only a few artists, no matter what kind of budget. And [ ... ] that is exactly the way Shakira career has made. This is called synergy. "
