Locminé

Locminé ( Breton: Logunec'h ) is a commune with 4211 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Morbihan in the Brittany region. It belongs to the Local Government Association, Pays de Locminé.

Geography

Locminé is in the center of the department of Morbihan and belongs to the Pays de Pontivy.

Neighboring municipalities are Moréac in the north, Bignan in the east, Moustoir -Ac in the south and Plumelin in the West.

Locminé is at the intersection of numerous roads. North of the village leads the N 24 over. In Locminé there are three connectors / ports on this part.

The river Tarun flows in a southwesterly direction through the town and forms in parts the municipal border with Plumelin. Also worth mentioning is the three hectares large pond Etang du Bois d' Amour.

Demographics

History

The municipality belongs to the historic region of Brittany Bro - Gwened (French Vannetais ) and within this region to region Bro Baod (French Pays de Baud) and shares his story. Since 1793 Locminé is the capital of its own canton. During the Chouannerie, insurrection royalist Catholic Christians in Brittany in the context of the French Revolution, was Locminé 1796 and 1799 the scene of two battles ( Bataille de Locminé ) between chouans and Republican troops.
