Login Petrovich Gentiles (Russian Логин Петрович Гейден, born 26 Augustjul / September 6 1773greg in Zuidlaren, .. .. † 5 Oktoberjul / October 17 1850greg in Tallinn ) was a Russian admiral and governor of Reval Dutch descent.

Life

Lieutenant Gentiles, whose original, Dutch name Ludwig Gustav Sigismund Graf van Heyden was, fled to Russia in 1795 for political reasons. In the rank of captain lieutenant in the Russian service kicking, he was inducted into the Black Sea Fleet. In the squadron of Admiral Ushakov Gentiles served in 1799 and took part in battles in the Mediterranean against the French. In 1803 he joined the Baltic Fleet, served at the naval academy of the Russian Navy and then at the Admiralty. 1808 commanded Gentiles a galley squadron in the Gulf of Finland, was repeatedly locked in combat with Swedish galleys and was promoted because of his earnings into sea captain. In 1812 he led Galeerenflottillen and transported troops from Finland to Tallinn and Narva. With a flotilla pagans drove 1813 by Tallinn to Gdansk, took part in the seaborne bombardment of French batteries and fixings as well as at April and 12 August skirmishes with French and Danish ships 28 who tried to penetrate the fortress. On August 27, 1817 he was promoted to Rear Admiral and he was ordered to the Admiralty in St. Petersburg.

In June 1827 heathens at the head of a squadron consisting of nine ships and went to England to unite with the Anglo-French squadron, which should support the elevating against the occupation of their country Greeks. Family

Heiden was with Anne -Marie Akeleye, daughter of John Akeleye, a native Danes and naval officer in the Russian service, married. They had six children. The eldest son, Login Loginowitsch (1806-1901), also served in the Russian Navy ( Admiral from 1861) and was also the main commander of Reval harbor. Fyodor (1821-1900) has been General and Governor-General of the Grand Duchy of Finland.
