London Bridge (Lake Havasu City)

The London Bridge is the partial reconstruction of the same name, excavated in the 1960s, London bridge structure around a water reservoir and recreation area in Arizona. The bridge that leads into Lake Havasu City on an artificial river branch of the Lake Havasu dammed Colorado River.

History

The founder of Lake Havasu City, the Oilmen Robert McCulloch, acquired the covering material of the original of 1831 coming elegant arch bridge over the River Thames. In the original London building by John Rennie junior static problems had been caused by the heavy traffic that made a new building required. McCulloch came in from the Reservoir Lake Havasu build a reinforced concrete bridge with the same proportions, which was then covered with a London acquired, numbered and transported by sea and by road grit from granite.

The 1971 completed reconstructed London Bridge connects an artificial island in the reservoir of the Colorado River to the mainland and serves as a tourist attraction of the recreation area founded in 1964, which primarily serves the elderly. Part of the project was originally designed as a picturesque " English Village ", a shopping center with a pub, a hedge maze and historical museum. Some of it is shut down.

Rumors want that McCulloch had actually acquire the London Tower Bridge, were contrary to the purchaser and the seller Ivan Luckin.

The reconstruction of the bridge formed the background of a television film of 1985 ( Bridge Across Time, also Arizona Ripper or Terror at London Bridge ) with David Hasselhoff and Stepfanie Kramer. The film shows a series of murders in Lake Havasu and brings them with the spirit of Jack the Ripper in relationship.
