Longkamp

Long Kamp in the Hunsrück is a nationally recognized tourist district Bernkastel -Wittlich in Rhineland- Palatinate. The municipality belongs to the municipality of Bernkastel- Kues, on the edge of the Hunsrück on the Mosel Heights.

History

The name Long Kamp was in 1030 first mentioned in a deed, as Countess Jutta of Lorraine, wife of Adalbert of Lorraine their farms in Bernkastel -Kues, Long Kamp and Monzelfeld to the former convent of St. Eucharius at Trier ( later St. Mathias ) presented. Long Kamp derives from the Latin longus from campus, which in German means " long field " or the " field of Longus '. Roman artefacts and ruins have been found in the district. Until 1802, the city was formed with a coming community. Since 1946 it has been part of Rhineland- Palatinate then newly founded.

The local council in Long Kamp consists of 16 council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 a proportional representation, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

Since 2007, Franz -Josef Klingels mayor of Long Kamp. He replaced Hans Johann Herrmann ( CDU).

Economy and infrastructure

Was there in the 1950 another 150 farms, the agriculture plays only a minor role today. There are only two farmers that operate in the main acquisition, even more so as a sideline.

In Long Kamp there is a Catholic kindergarten and a community primary school.

The place is connected with the national highway 50 at the River Moselle and Hunsrückhöhenstraße. In 21 km away is the Hahn airport.
