Lophocoronoidea

The genus Lophocorona is the only genus of the butterfly family Lophocoronidae and includes six endemic species in Australia.

Features

The moths arriving in Australia from Perth to South West Sydney ago. This family has the following features: the outer muscles of the labrum missing, and also the well-developed mandibles have no muscles on. This means that the caterpillars of which one has not yet discovered, must have immovable mandibles. Also, the proboscis has no muscles. A metanotum ( sclerotized back plate ) is formed. The wing tops are not scaly. The animals have four Malpighian tubules, each opening into the intestine. In the abdomen, the rope ladder nervous system is with five pairs of ganglia and well-trained links at the top.
