Lourosa is a municipality and town in the district of Santa Maria da Feira district of Aveiro. The place belongs to the region of Entre Douro e Vouga in the Portuguese region of Norte. The municipality has an area of 5.8 km ² and 8634 inhabitants (as at 30 June 2011).

The name Lourosa

According to legend, the name from the word sets Loura (pt. for Laurel), who was often to be found there, and the name of a pretty girl "Pink " who lived there. Over the years it developed into Lourosa. Another source of the name is also seen in the process bay; here in the word stem of the plant laurel O Laureiro, which in turn is written in the Roman Latin Laurus, thereby Lourosa was.

History

The town was first mentioned in 1009, and thus before the establishment of the Kingdom of Portugal in 1128 a previous, private Condado formed Portucalense (German Portuguese county) in the years 1095/1096. The Aldeia was raised to Vila ( town ) and on 19 April 2001 on the Cidade (City) on September 25, 1985.
