Lucy Ann Polk

Lucy Ann Polk (* May 16, 1927, † 10 October 2011) was an American jazz and big band vocalist.

Life and work

Polk began around 1947 her career with Tommy Dorsey (Baby, Baby All the Time ); it was then known primarily through their cooperation with the bandleader Les Brown, in whose orchestra she sang in the early 1950s, when there also played profiled Jazz musicians such as saxophonist Dave Pell and trumpeter Don Fagerquist. In 1950, the single Crazy He Calls Me was released on RCA Victor. With Les Brown's orchestra she also acted in a movie with music ( I've Got the World on a String 1951).

In 1954 she left Brown's orchestra because they did not want to go longer on grueling tours. She was also a singer in the bands of Kay Kyser and Dave Pell. 1951, 1952, 1953 and 1954, she won with Band the Downbeat Poll in the Best Girl Singer category. Polk submitted a total of three solo albums, including Lucky Lucy Ann (1957 ), which contained arrangements by Marty Paich and was re- released as a single on CD.
