Luis Ladaria Ferrer

Luis Francisco Ladaria Ferrer SJ, common Luis Ladaria, ( born April 19, 1944 in Manacor, Mallorca, Spain ) is a Curia, Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Church.

Life

Luis Ladaria studied law at the Complutense University of Madrid. On October 17, 1966, he entered the Congregation of the Jesuits. Then Ladaria was sent Philosophy and Catholic Theology at the Pontifical University of Comillas in Madrid and at the Philosophical- Theological College of St. Georgen in Frankfurt am Main for studies in the subjects. On July 29, 1973 Luis Ladaria received the sacrament of Holy Orders.

1975 Ladaria received his doctorate at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome for the Doctor of Theology. Since 1975 he was a professor of dogmatic theology at the Pontifical University of Comillas and since 1984 at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. His main teaching and research area is the Christology and theological anthropology. From 1986 to 1994 Luis Ladaria was vice-rector of the Pontifical Gregorian University.

He was from 1992 to 1997 a member of the International Theological Commission. Since 1995 Ladaria was consultant to the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. In 2004 he was appointed by Pope John Paul II as the successor of Cardinal Georges Cottier later as General Secretary of the International Theological Commission.

On 9 July 2008, he was named Pope Benedict XVI. Titular Archbishop of Thibica and appointed him as successor to Archbishop Angelo Amato, secretary of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. He received his episcopal consecration on July 26, 2008 Cardinal Secretary of State Tarcisio Bertone SDB in the Lateran Basilica; Co-consecrators were William Joseph Cardinal Levada, Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, and Bishop Vincenzo Paglia, Bishop of Terni- Narni- Amelia. Luis Ladaria is the first Jesuit to such an office in the CDF. On September 21, 2013, was confirmed by Pope Francis permanently in office.

On January 31, 2009 Luis Ladaria was also appointed as consultant to the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity. On January 5, 2011, he was named Benedict XVI. In addition to the consultant to the Pontifical Council for Pastoral Assistance to Health Care Workers.
