Luis Sánchez-Moreno Lira

Luis Sánchez- Moreno Lira ( born November 12, 1925 in Arequipa, Peru, † 28 September 2009 in Lima, Peru) was a Roman Catholic Archbishop of Arequipa.

Archbishop Luis Moreno Sánchez Lira was considered a representative of a remarkable generation in Peru and integrator of famous intellectuals, politicians, scientists and other personalities. He was the patron of Catholic social teaching.

Life

Luis Sánchez- Moreno Lira studied by visiting the " La Salle " school in Arequipa and Lima, literature and law with law degree from the Universidad Nacional de San Agustín de Arequipa ( UNSA ). In Barcelona and Madrid, he completed a PhD in law and received his doctorate at the Universidad Central de Madrid in civil law.

Then he joined Opus Dei in Spain, returned to Peru and taught civil law at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú ( PUCP ). At the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas ( " Angelicum " ) in Rome, he received his doctorate in canon law.

He received on 4 August 1957, the ordained priest for Opus Dei in Madrid and worked as a pastor in Peru.

Pope John XXIII. 1961 appointed him titular bishop of Nilopolis and appointed him as Auxiliary Bishop of Chiclayo. Archbishop Romolo Carboni, Apostolic Nuncio in Peru, gave him the episcopal ordination, co-consecrators were Leonardo José Rodriguez Ballón OFM, Archbishop of Arequipa, and José Dammert Bellido, Bishop of Cajamarca.

Luis Sánchez- Moreno Lira was one of the few persons who were participants of all four sessions of the Second Vatican Council.

Pope Paul VI. ordered him in 1967 after the death of Daniel Figueroa Villón first Vicar General and Administrator of the Diocese of Chiclayo. He was appointed Bishop - Prelate of Territorialprälatur Yauyos 1968. He engaged in particular for Caritas and the infrastructure for the population, especially the training of teachers. In 1971 he founded the seminary of San José, where he worked as a professor of Church History. In 1982 he founded the Pedagogical Institute of Cañete. In 1991, he opened he initiated creation of the Sanctuary of Our Lady Mother of Fair Love ( Santuario Nuestra Señora Madre del Amor Hermoso ) in San Vicente de Cañete.

1996 he was appointed Archbishop of Arequipa by Pope John Paul II. 2003, Pope John Paul II 's age-related resignation. He died after a long illness at the age of 83 and was buried in Our Lady Mother of Beautiful Love in San Vicente de Cañete in the Sanctuary.

For his pastoral work in Chiclayo and Arequipa 2004 he received the Medalla de Oro de Santo Toribio de Mogrovejo and 2009, the Medal of Honor of the Peruvian Congress the rank of Commander ( Medalla de Honor del Congreso de la República ). Previously, he has been recognized by the provincial government in Arequipa with the honorary citizenship of the Universities of San Agustin and Santa Maria de Arequipa with honorary doctorates.
