Lumpacivagabundus is an Austrian comedy film directed by Géza von Bolváry from the year 1936. It is based on motives of the play The evil spirit Lumpazivagabundus by Johann Nestroy.
Action

The film was shot in Durnstein, Göttweig, Sievering and white churches in Lower Austria. The interior shots were taken in the Tobis - Sascha - studio in Vienna Sievering.
The film experienced on 23 December 1936 at the Vienna Comedy Theatre premiered. In Austria, the film was also titled The evil spirit Lumpacivagabundus. In Germany the film was first on 12 February 1937 in the UT Kurfürstendamm, U.T. Premiered Friedrichstrasse and the Titania -Palast in Berlin. The German version was about 120 feet shorter than the Austrian version. For the first time the restored film was released in the Vienna version on 29 January 2010 on DVD.

Heinz Riihmann had played the twist at the Deutsches Theater before the film under Heinz Hilpert. Paul Hörbiger embodied the Knieriem 1956 in the Lumpazivagabundus adaptation of Franz Antel again. He also played in the movie Dance with me in the morning 1962 an aging lubrication actor, who also appears on its stage as Knieriem in Nestroy'schen piece.
