The Lycée Français de Vienne ( LFV ) is one of 410 through the school network of the Agence pour l' Enseignement Français à l' Etranger ( AEFE ) connected to French school abroad in Vienna and was established in 1946 by Général Béthouart. It is a private school, but which has public law. This means that all certificates are recognized and tests before commissions are not necessary. History

The school opened on 11 May 1946 in temporary premises with 77 students and moved in the sequence in which Karl Kupský ( 1906-1984 ) with planned, on May 8, 1954 solemnly shared school buildings within the park of the Palais Clam- Gallas between Liechtenstein road and Währingerstraße in the 9th district of Vienna. Since the beginning it is a mixed school of Austrian and French students. The premises of the "Studio Molière ," the former " flier cinema ", belong to the school.

On March 15, 1947, a first contract between the Austrian and the French Republic was closed to promote cooperation in the fields of education, training and university as well as in the literary, scientific and artistic field.

In 1950 the school had 500 students in 1350 and 1953, which even then 20 % of French origin were. As the Jewish community after the Second World War many Jewish institutions, including some schools closed, many Jewish students attended the Lyceum. Thus completed there under other Ben Blessed, Ariel Muzicant and Ronald Barazon their schooling.

In the school year 2005/06, 1,821 students attended the Lycée, including 362 kindergarten, 604 elementary schools and 855 the lower and upper level of the Gymnasium. Today, kindergarten and some primary school classes are in the premises in Grinzing, the remaining classes are housed in the buildings in the street Liechtenstein.

Orientation

The school is operated as in France as a day school with French as the language of instruction. For Austrians additional education is compulsory up to the Matura in German from kindergarten, non- Austrians offered German as the first modern foreign language from kindergarten. Even for English-speaking students, there are special classes, which then allows to visit an English speaking university. For lunch there are typical local food, and school trips are usually spent in France. With the conclusion is obtained both a French Baccalauréat and an Austrian Matura, if the additional instruction was occupied in German. Other languages ​​offered are Spanish, Arabic and Latin. Sequence and meaning

Due to the very large crowds is the safest method to secure a place at the school is to go there early as the kindergarten, which is also recommended for non- French-speaking children and from the age of three is possible. For non- French-speaking children between six and ten years ( first grade of elementary school to 1st Class AHS ) there is a maximum of twenty -strong entry-level class in which the conditions for inclusion in the mainstream schools to be created. The students are in their regular class and be brought to a specified schedule for six lessons per week in the classroom. During the period is also taken care of with the added German lessons that problems incorporation into an Austrian school is not a problem.

Classes begin at 8:25 clock in the morning and lasts until 12:30. The afternoon session begins at 13:30 clock and 18:25 clock can take up. Each lesson is approximately 55 minutes. In the morning and in the afternoon there is both a 10- minute break.
