Lycium torreyi

Lycium torreyi is a plant of the genus Bock mandrels ( Lycium ) in the nightshade family (Solanaceae ).

Description

Lycium torreyi is a 1 to 3 m high, branched and spread growing shrub. The leaves are slightly succulent, 10-13 mm long and 3-10 mm wide.

The flowers are hermaphroditic and four or fünfzählig. The calyx is hairy cup or tubular, glabrous or sparsely. The calyx tube reaches a length of 2.5 to 6 mm. The length of the sepals is 1/ 4 to half the length of the calyx tube. The crown is spread and greenish - lavender or whitish. The corolla tube is 8 to 15 mm long, the length of the Kronlappen is 2 to 4 mm. The stamens are densely pubescent to sparsely in a 1.5 mm large area at the base of the freestanding part.

The fruit is a bright red, ovoid berry, which reaches a length of 6 to 12 mm. It contains eight to 30 seeds.

Occurrence

The species is widespread in North America and is present there in the U.S. states of Texas, Utah, Nevada, California, Arizona and New Mexico, and the Mexican state of Chihuahua.

System

Within the goat spines ( Lycium ) the species is according to phylogenetic studies in a clade grouped with other North and South American species of the genus. The species is closely related americanum with Lycium, Lycium infaustum, Lycium exsertum, Lycium fremontii, Lycium parishii, Lycium texanum, Lycium berlandieri, Lycium andersonii, Lycium elongatum, Lycium athium and Lycium minimum.
