Lycksele

Lycksele ( South Sami: Liksjoe, umesamisch: Likssjuo ) is a town in the Swedish province of Västerbotten County and the historic province of Lapland. Lycksele is located 130 km northwest of Umeå on the European road 12 and is the capital of the municipality of the same name. Lycksele has a station on the railway line Hällnäs - Storuman.

History

Lycksele is one of the oldest places of Lapland and was from the 17th -century center for southern Lapland. Lycksele market in 1929 and 1946 got city rights. With about 2,900 inhabitants, the city was at that time one of the smallest towns in Sweden, but has a dynamic development as a trading and service center for the Southern Lapland through.
