Lydden Hill Race Circuit

The small and completely manageable Circuit Lydden Hill Race Circuit (former name Lydden Lydden Race Circuit Circuit respectively ) is exactly one mile, respectively 1609 meters in length the shortest asphalt race track in the UK. It is located in Kent, close to the A2 highway, about halfway between Dover and Canterbury, near the village of Wootton. The track is mainly used for domestic and international rallycross race (on the 1400 m long runway RX ) as well as for touring cars, sports cars and motorcycle competitions at club sport level.

History

The race was founded in 1955 by Bill Chesson († 1999) built in collaboration with the Astra Motor Club. About 10 years was organized in " Lydden Hill " only so-called Stock Car Races and Grass Track Races and only in 1965 was the area with the Lydden Circuit a paved race track, which then auto racing could be played up to and including Formula 3 runs. Here the very first Rallycross was run on February 4, 1967 after Bill Chesson had some grass and gravel sections prepared next to the asphalt course, the later the Rally Monte Carlo winner (1968) and Formula 1 pilot ( 1968-1971 ) Vic Elford won with a Porsche 911. To date, track discharged Rallycross runs, among other things to the British Rallycross Championship at Lydden Hill Race Circuit of the now called, 1973-1996 found a total of 23 European Rallycross Championship races held here. On 25 April 2011 ( Easter Monday ) was attended by around 13,500 spectators 26 Rallycross Championship run in the so-called Home of Rallycross, making the club racing circuit was able to announce a new attendance record.

Wanted 1989 bought the Construction landlord and amateur rally Crosser Tom Bissett investment by Bill Chesson, but sold in 1991, his ownership of the Formula 1 racing team McLaren, which Lydden to the new headquarters do with F1 test track, but not necessary in a row building permits received. McLaren later decided for Woking as a location and rented Lydden Race Circuit from 1993 until the end of 2007 to the British Motor Cycle Racing Club ( BMCRC ), making the race track could be used equally for automobile and motorcycle competitions on.

2008 took over the successful Rallycross pilot Pat Doran ( an Irish -born Brit ) the track as lessee for at least five years of McLaren and plans, in addition to some much-needed upgrades to further expand on racing. Amy Doran, the eldest daughter of Pat Doran has taken over the task of the Circuit Director.

  • Asphalt race track: Rob Cox (aka Rob Cox Allison, GB ) on a Lola - Larrousse LC88 ( Larrousse - Calmels -F1 as a Formula Libre called ) in 1989 in 38.3 seconds (1 round).
  • New Rallycross track: Sverre Isachsen (N) in 2009 on a Ford Focus ST T16 4 × 4 in 3:13,34 minutes (4 ½ laps).
