Lyndoch, South Australia

Lyndoch is a town in the Barossa Valley, South Australia, 58 kilometers north-east of Adelaide.

The city lies at the southern end of the Barossa Valley between Gawler and Tanunda in the Barossa Valley Highway 175 meters above sea level. 2006 there were 1,400 people in Lyndoch. Lyndoch is part of the Barossa Council.

History

Prior to the settlement of European immigrants lived a small number of Aboriginal people in the area.

In December 1837 European explorers reached the area. On December 13, 1837 listed their leader Colonel William Light, that they had reached a beautiful valley, which he named Lord Lynedoch Lynedoch Vale after his friend. Colonel Light sold in 1839 as Surveyor - General on behalf of South Australia land around the present site Lyndoch. In the early 1840s Edward Rowland acquired a piece of land that is known as Rowland Flat today.

Lyndoch and the surrounding area were the first places in the Barossa Valley, was grown in the wine. A certain Mr. Gilbert had in 1847 grown on an acre of land in Pewsey Vale wine, as well as Johann Gramp wine at Jacob 's Creek and in 1850 the first wine produced in this area.
