Lysurus (fungus)

Lysurus mokusin

Lysurus is a fungal genus in the family Stinkmorchelverwandten ( Phallaceae ). It includes five species whose center of gravity lies in the tropics.

Features

As with other representatives of the rods mushrooms, the fruiting bodies of Lysurus species develop from a whitish, round Hexenei. In most species, such as at Lysurus cruciatus or Lysurus mokusin, pass the mature fruiting body of a cylindrical, round or ribbed stalk that ends in 3-4 short, spongy arms. These arms, which usually separate from each other, are covered by the olive-green, foul-smelling gleba. But there are also differences in the shapes of the spore-bearing fruiting body sections: In Lysurus corallocephallus the stem ends in the form of coral-like branched, scarlet branches, while the stalk of Lysurus periphragmoides holding up a grid-shaped " ball ".
