Lyudvig Chibirov

Ludwig Alexeyevich Chibirov (Russian Людвиг Александрович Чибиров, Ossetian: Цыбырты Алексейы фырт Людвиг; born November 19, 1932 in Tskhinvali, South Ossetian Autonomous Oblast ) is a South Ossetian historian and politician. He was from 1996 to 2001 head of state of South Ossetia, was not recognized internationally.

Life

Chibirov holds a doctorate in history, was a professor of history and University President of the State University of Batumi.

From 17 September 1993 until 27 November 1996, he was President of the Parliament - Chairman of the Supreme Soviet (later of Elders ) - and owner of the most important and equipped with most proxies political office of South Ossetia. On November 10, 1996, he was under an internationally unrecognized option first holder of the newly created Office President of South Ossetia. Chibirov was in addition to four other candidates and former cabinet chief Vyacheslav Gabarajew the most promising candidates and of 27 November 1996 to 18 December 2001 at the office.

Chibirov was considered politically moderate. He called for a union of South and North Ossetia within Russia and could also be a united Ossetia within the CIS imagine. At the same time he always held the door for a political solution within the Georgian state openly and gave up a confrontation with the Georgian government. There were phases in which he cooperated with President Eduard Shevardnadze. He signed in June 1998, a mutual commitment with Shevardnadze. Thus, the political status of South Ossetia has been defined, allowing the return of refugees and support the reconstruction of the South Ossetian economy.

December 18, 2001 Chibirov was replaced by a cousin, Eduard Kokoity, because had the influential Tedejew family clan to the former head of the South Ossetian Security Albert Tedejew and his brother Dzhambulat, a former wrestler World Champion and coach of the Soviet national team, away from him.

Because economic advantage within the acquisition Tedejew clan was the son of Ludwig Chibirov, Alexei, initially arrested in January 2003 by employees of the South Ossetian intelligence, then released after returning from Kokoity. In May 2003 Chibirov was accused of corruption and the granting of political assassinations in South Ossetia.

Chibirov now lives in Russia Vladikavkaz. His political protégé Dmitry Sanakoev, whom he appointed in 2001 to his last Prime Minister, was elected in a referendum on the alternative President of the Georgian controlled portions of South Ossetia on 12 November 2006.
