Macau national football team

The national football team of Macau ( Chinese:中国 澳门 足球 代表 队, Portuguese: Seleção Macaense de Futebol ) represents the Macao Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China in football. It is subordinate to the National Football Association Associação de Futebol de Macau ( Chinese:中国 澳门 足球 总会).

History

The team represented Macao already at international football events before the year 1999, when the country was still a Portuguese colony. This was continued after the handover of Macau to the People's Republic of China and its transformation into a Special Administrative Region in 1999. Macau has since, like Hong Kong, its own independent of the national team of the People's Republic of China national team, in the spirit of "one country, two systems " doctrine.

The first international match Macao took place against the South Korean national team in 1949. Macao lost the game 1:5. The first victory of a football team of Macau dates back to 1975, when you could beat Panama 2-1.

Macau qualified so far neither for the Asian Championship yet for a World Cup.
