Magdalene of Brandenburg (1412–1454)

Magdalena von Brandenburg ( * ca 1412, † October 27, 1454 in Scharnebeck ) was a princess of Brandenburg and by marriage Duchess of Brunswick- Lüneburg.

Life

Magdalena was a daughter of the later Elector Frederick I of Brandenburg (1371-1440) from his marriage to Elizabeth (1383-1442), daughter of Duke Frederick of Bavaria -Landshut. Elizabeth's brothers were the one after ruling Frederick II and Albrecht Achilles, Elector of Brandenburg.

She married on 3 July 1429 Tangermünde Duke Frederick II of Brunswick -Lüneburg ( 1418-1478 ). The marriage was, as was her sister Cecilia led by Duke William of Brunswick- Wolfenbüttel, by Emperor Sigismund and the engagement of the sisters had taken place on March 3, 1420. Magdalena received a dowry of 10,000 florins Rhenish and as a jointure the bottom pond castle, later the town and castle Lüchow. For the dowry and the dowry to Wichard von Rochow had confirmed it by his worldly possessions for the Elector of Brandenburg. Through her marriage Magdalene is considered ancestress of the House of Brunswick.
