History

Construction

The Walt Disney Company began construction of the Magic Kingdom at the same time with the construction of Walt Disney World in 1967, after the death of Walt Disney. The park has been designed along the lines of Disneyland in California, but differs in the larger area. In the design of the Magic Kingdom Disneyland was again slightly modified. The reason for the modification was that Walt Disney saw a Frontierland cowboy walking through the Tomorrowland at Disneyland and so wanted to prevent such illusion -destroying elements in the Magic Kingdom. To make this possible, were in the Magic Kingdom tunnels, so-called " Utilidors " built. With these tunnels, it was now possible that the staff could go unseen by and from the park. Due to the high water level of Florida these tunnels were built not in the ground, but on the basis of the lake. The area around it was filled with debris, which comes from the excavation of the "Seven Seas Lagoon ". In the later extensions of the park no new tunnel more were created. The concept of this tunnel was built later implemented in all Walt Disney World Parks.

Opening

The Magic Kingdom park was opened on 1 October 1971 as the first sub-project of the Florida Project Walt Disney World Resort. The park opened concurrently with two hotels, the Disney 's Contemporary Resort and Disney 's Polynesian Resort. At the opening of the park had 23 attractions including three unique time for this park and twenty copies from the Disneyland. The Walt Disney Company promised to increase the number of attractions continuously.

Areas of the Magic Kingdom

The park map lists 48 attractions in today on seven different thematic areas.

The park train " Walt Disney World Railroad " moves in a circle around the park, stopping at the various stops in the regions Main Street, Frontierland and Mickey's Toontown Fair.

Main Street, U.S.A.

Not only the style of a small Midwestern city can be found in Main Street, but also the style of other regions of the U.S., such as New England and Missouri. Most obviously this is in the middle of Main Street, the so-called " Four Corners ". Each building represents a different architectural style there. " Four Corners " is different to Disneyland Anaheim: Instead of an opera house in the Magic Kingdom is an exhibition hall.

There are many souvenir and food shops as well as a real barber shop on Main Street. The decoration corresponds to the petty-bourgeois 20th-century America. The decoration of the style of the Walt Disney film Lady and the Tramp was modeled. The City Hall houses the lobby provides a tourist information desk. The Emporium's various Disney souvenirs such as Plush toys, pins and baseball caps are purchased.

At the end of Main Street stands the famous Cinderella Castle, which serves as a landmark for the Magic Kingdom. The castle is only 55 meters high, due to acts of forced perspective but a lot bigger. This technique was also used in the houses of Main Street: The first floor is both less highly than the ground floor and the second floor is again less high than the first. This effect means that the buildings appear larger than they really are.
