Magnolia is a municipality in Montgomery County north of the city of Tomball at Houston.

History

The first settlement was founded in the 1840s and was first called Mink 's Prairie, named after one of the first settlers, Joseph Mink. In 1850 the name was shortened to Mink. The first post office was opened in 1858 and on September 3, 1885 John F. Doops became the first postmaster of Mink, Texas. At the turn of the century Mink had 25 inhabitants, but this quickly changed in the following years.

On 28 July 1903, the village of Mink was renamed Magnolia ( Texas). In the same period, the I & GN Railroad was relocated near the city, so that there was an increasing influx of new residents. 1915 Magnolia already had 150 inhabitants, most of whom worked at the local sawmill.

The average household income is $ 41,875. Thus the inhabitants Magnolias are relatively wealthy. The population is 85% European descent ( national average 75 %).
