Makati

Makati ( officially: City of Makati, Filipino: Lungsod ng Makati ) is a major city in the Philippines. It is located in the center of the capital region Metro Manila and has 529 039 inhabitants ( census May 1, 2010 ). Makati is considered the economic and financial center of the Philippines. Besides the two Philippine stock exchanges Philippine Stock Exchange ( PSE) and Philippine Dealing Exchange ( PDEX ) here are also many banks, such as Metro Bank and other companies settled. The embassies of Germany, Austria and Switzerland are located in Makati. In the village there is the FEU- Makati campus of Far Eastern University.

The northern boundary of Makati is the Pasig River, with the city of Mandaluyong across the river. To the east, Makati is bordered by Pasig City and the municipality of Pateros, and further south and west include the cities of Taguig, Pasay and Manila, the circle.

The name Makati finds its origin in the word kati, the Tagalog word for tides, and refers to the changing tides in the adjacent Pasig River. In the 12th century, the area was inhabited by Malays, but an extension of the settlement took place only under Spanish influence held from the 16th century. During the Spanish era, the town was temporarily called San Pedro de Macati.

Today's main streets Ayala Avenue and Paseo de Roxas formed until 1948 the runways of the airport " Nielson Field " before the Manila airport was moved to Parañaque City.

Today Makati is developed at the modern city of the country.
