Malcolm Spence (Jamaican athlete)

Malcolm Spence ( AE Malcolm "Mal " Spence, born January 2, 1936) is a former Jamaican sprinter.

At the Olympic Games in 1956, he retired about 200 m from the lead and reached about 400 m the semi-finals. In the 4 x 400 - meter relay, the Jamaican team was disqualified in the final.

In 1958 he won at the British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Cardiff with the Jamaican team bronze in the 4 x 440 -yard relay.

Starting for the West Indies Federation, he took the following year at the Pan American Games in Chicago bronze in the 400m and gold with the West Indian team in the 4 x 400 - meter relay. Also as part of the West Indian team he once again reached the semi-finals in the 400m and won bronze in the 4 x 400 -meter relay at the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome.

More success with the Jamaican 4 x 400 -meter relay, he celebrated at the British Empire and Commonwealth Games in 1962 in Perth (gold), at the Pan American Games in 1963 in São Paulo (Bronze) and at the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 1964 ( fourth place ).

His twin brother Melville Spence was also one in 1956 and 1964 as a sprinter for the Jamaican Olympic team.
