Malta national under-21 football team

The Maltese U-21 national football team is a national team of Maltese football players. It is subject to the Malta Football Association and represents them on the U-21 level, in friendly matches against the national teams of other national associations, but also at the European Championships of the continental federation UEFA and the Football World Cup FIFA. Be eligible, players who have not yet completed their 21 years of age and possess the Maltese nationality. In tournaments, the age at first qualifier is relevant.

History

To date, the U -21 Malta could still qualify for not aligned by UEFA tournament.

In qualifying for the 2006 European Championship, the team had to deal with in the qualifying round 8 with Croatia, Hungary, Sweden, Iceland and Bulgaria. There were earned with a goal difference of five points 3:16. This was the sixth and last place in this group represents the only victory the team reached on 8 October 2004 against the selection Islands 1-0. On the Icelandic island of the Red -Whites brought another point. Against Bulgaria for the fifth point was retracted on the final day of qualifying. Apart from 6-0 in the first leg against Sweden, no play at a higher goal difference of 2 hits was given lost. Against the winner of this group, Croatia, both games were only narrowly lost 0-1.

For the European Championship 2007, European U-21 teams had to qualify in a high speed. In a preliminary round, according to statistics, poorer teams, the Maltese for the short group stage had to qualify. On April 12th and 24th 2006, the team went to the team from Georgia. For 2009, it was again played in the famous mode with multiple groups. Malta met in group 10 on Wales, France, Romania and Bosnia- Herzegovina. Only one victory succeeded the island footballers and ended up with a goal difference of 3:24. The only success was against Bosnia- Herzegovina on 20 November 2007 at native place. Notable successes reached the team at 0-2 first leg against France and the 0-1 defeat against Romania on June 5, 2007.
