Manfred Cordes

Manfred Cordes ( born 1953 ) is a German musician. He is professor of music theory, counterpoint, ensemble and was dean and rector of the University of the Arts Bremen.

Cordes is a specialist in the music of the 16th and early 17th century. Trained as a school and church musicians, singers and classical scholar, he received his doctorate with a thesis on the keys and doctrine of affections of the Renaissance. As director of the ensemble, founded in 1993 Weser- Renaissance Bremen, he designed and managed a variety of concert programs, such as at international festivals had a major impact both in Germany.

Life

Manfred Cordes studied school and church music in Hannover and Berlin. After studying classical philology and vocal pedagogy a guest lecturer of music theory followed in Groningen. Since 1983, in Bremen, Cordes took over the vocal ensemble of the Forum Alte Musik Bremen and started with him an extensive concert career. By further specialization in the repertoire of the 16th and 17th century as well as by the addition of drag of historical instruments, the ensemble Weser- Renaissance Bremen was formed.

As a teacher of music theory, counterpoint and ensemble Manfred Cordes 1986 was involved in the founding of the Academy of Ancient Music Bremen. In 1991 he received his doctorate with a thesis on the relationship between key and emotion in the music of the Renaissance.

1994 Cordes was appointed as a professor at the University of the Arts Bremen. There he directed until 2005 as dean of the Faculty of Music. From 2007 to 2012 he was rector of the university.

Cordes is a member of the Advisory Board of the International Heinrich Schütz Society and was vice chairman of the Conference of Rectors of music colleges.

Projects

For several years, Cordes, in cooperation with the University of the Arts and the Ensemble Weser- Renaissance through its own concert series in Bremen.

In addition, he is pursuing an international concert career in recent years, among others at festivals in Utrecht ( Holland Festival), Herne ( Tage Alter Musik / WDR ), Hall ( Handel Festival ), Gothenburg, Helsinki (Baroque week), Innsbruck, Brussels, Antwerp, Bruges, Ghent (Festival van Vlaanderen), Dresden, Munich, Regensburg ( Tage Alter Musik ) or Hamburg ( The Old factory / NDR ).
