Mangfall Valley Railway

The Mangfalltalbahn ( Route number 958 ) is a single-track running through the Mangfalltal electrified railway between wooden churches and Rosenheim, which is served by regional trains in the timetable only. However, it also serves as a detour route in case of disturbances on the railway line between Munich and Rosenheim.

History

The Mangfalltalbahn is part of the first rail link between Munich and Rosenheim ( and on to Salzburg / Kufstein), the so-called Maximiliansbahn. It was built by the Bavarian State and completed on 31 October 1857. The route then ended in Rosenheim suburb On Roßacker. The first "real" train station in Rosenheim, including roundhouse and turntable was then inaugurated on 13 November 1858. The former engine shed still exists today and is used under the name " roundhouse Rosenheim " as an exhibition building. The railway line was used at that time primarily to transport coal from the mine in Hausham to Salinensudhaus in Rosenheim.

From Bad Aibling led a now degraded electrified local railway to Bad Feilnbach. Also, there was a short spur route vague, which was still used in the 1940s for passenger traffic. Later the tracks were only used for the connection of Leitzachwerke before they were demolished in the late 1990s.

The planned two-track extension of the line has not been realized to date, since 1871, the newly built Direct flights Munich - Rosenheim Grafing (now Route number 950/951 ) took over the function of the main track. In 1971 the line was electrified in order to hold an alternative route for the high-load range over Grafing can. You can tell the track this purpose also, because the sidings at the stations are unusually long.

Plans for further breakpoints in Feldolling, Hinrichssegen and Rosenheim - Aicher Park began in 1995. Basis for this was a cabinet decision of the Bavarian state government, which fell on the initiative of the district administration Rosenheim and a study commissioned there. But even in 2008, writes the German railway that a clear date for the commissioning of the proposed breakpoints can not be named. Local politicians raise serious allegations against the German railway. In all the years was put into operation on 4 September 2009 as the only breakpoint Kurpark in Bad Aibling. The commissioning of the breakpoint Hinrichssegen is scheduled for September 2014.

Since 15 December 2013, the Bayerische Oberland Bahn operates under the name Meridian through the traffic on behalf of the Bavarian Railway Company. Due to regulatory reasons but the planned three -car trainsets Stadler Flirt 3 were not used.

Route

The starting point of the track is in wooden churches along the route München-Holzkirchen-Bayrischzell/Lenggries/Tegernsee, where the line three of the Munich S -Bahn ends. The Cross Street train station is also S -Bahn terminus, in this case the line 7

In Rosenheim the track meets the main paths Munich -Rosenheim as well as on the non-electrified single-track and main track to Mühldorf.

The total distance was traveled to the year 2000 by locomotive-hauled push-pull trains, then the 425 series were of the DB AG EMUs used. Since the timetable change in December 2013, the route will be operated as part of the E-network Rosenheim by Bayerische Oberland Bahn under the name Meridian. On this route are to be used in future vehicles of the type Stadler Flirt.
