Mansfield Town F.C.

Mansfield Town is a football club from Mansfield in Nottinghamshire, England. The club plays its home games from the Field Mill and has the nickname The Stags ( German deer ), The Amber ( German the yellow ).

1995 circulated plans to build a new stadium, because the Field Mill was outdated, these plans were rejected and decided to renovate the old stadium. As part of the renovation works were three new grandstands, the fourth grandstand is to be rebuilt in the near future.

History

1897, the club under the name of Mansfield Wesleyans, was founded by the Wesleyan Church in Mansfield. In 1910 it was renamed the Mansfield Town as well as the move to the Stadium Field Mill, one of the oldest football stadiums in the world.

After several attempts, the club was for season 1931/32 included in the Football League, winning the title of the Four Division in season 1974/75 and the associated rise in the third league, the club celebrated one of its greatest successes, including the Freight Rover Trophy winning the 1987 counts. The final of this Cup was Mansfield's single game in London's Wembley Stadium, they beat Bristol City 5-4 in a penalty shootout. In the season 1977/78 the club could play in his story even second-rate for the only year the direct relegated again but could not be avoided.

Then in 1991, was the descent back to the fourth division, in 2002, succeeded by the rise in the Division Two again to return to the third highest English league, as you could finish the season only 23, Mansfield, however, had the immediate transition in the Division Three compete. At the end of the season 2007 /08 a further descent ensured that Mansfield Town after 77 years of continuous membership in the match operation of the Football League had to play in the Conference National for the first time fünftklassigen.

After five years in the fifth division, the club won the 2012/13 season, the championship in the Conference National, and thus managed to return to the Football League.
