Manticora (band)

Manticora (named after the Persian- Greek mythical creatures Manticore ) is a Danish progressive power metal band from Hvidovre, which was founded in 1996 by Lars and Kristian Larsen.

History

The band was formed in 1997 by vocalist Lars Larsen, guitarist Kristian Larsen and drummer Mads Volf. A short time later, bassist Rene Nielsen was occupied. Shortly after, they took the EP Dead End Solution on. In 1998 the band signed a contract with Intromental management and signed shortly thereafter a contract with Black Lotus Records. In the same year came as another guitarist Flemming Schultz and keyboardist Jeppe Jensen Eg the occupation. The debut album Roots of Eternity was released in summer 1999.

In 2000 the band signed a deal with Scarlet Records and veröffentelichte half a year later the album Darkness With Tales to Tell. In 2001, Nielsen bassist left the band and was replaced by Kasper Gram. In addition, guitarist Schultz left the band, so Martin Arendal took over his position.

In 2002 the band played at the Sweden Rock Festival. In the fall of the Hyperion album was released. In spring 2003, a tour followed along with Platitude through Europe. In early 2004, work began on the next album called 8 Deadly Sins. The album was recorded in March un April in the Jailhouse Studios under the direction of producer Tommy Hansen. In February 2005, together with Angra and Edenbridge was followed by another tour through Europe. As a guitarist came after Stefan Johansson and keyboardist Andreas Lindahl the band. After her first appearance in the United States followed the ProgPower USA in September 2005 in Atlanta.

Then guitarist Martin Arendal came back and replaced Johansson. Then the band went back into the studio to record the album The Black Circus Part 1 - Letters take, which was again produced by Tommy Hansen. This was followed by a tour of Europe together with Andromeda. After this the band went back into the Jailhouse studios to The Black Circus Part 2 - Disclosure receive. After the publications followed a tour through Europe and the United States together with Jon Oliva 's Pain. This was followed in May 2009, another through Europe together with Circle II Circle. The tour included 21 performances in 16 countries.

In 2010, the album Safe has been released. The release was followed by a tour of Europe in October, on the the band played nine different countries.

Style

The band plays progressive power metal and is compared with Blind Guardian. In addition, partly borrowed from the thrash metal are audible, thus, comparisons are made with Depressive Age.
