Manuel Göttsching

Manuel Göttsching ( born September 9, 1952 in Berlin ) is a multi-instrumentalist (main instrument guitar ) and composer. He is considered one of the pioneers of electronic music and the known as the Berlin electronic scene.

Career

The 1960s

From 1960 to 1966 Göttsching learned classical guitar playing. The first school band he founded at the age of 15 years with his friend and classmate Hartmut Enke at his birthday party. In the years 1968 and 1969, he met for the first time the Swiss avant-garde composer Thomas Kessler in electronics Beat Studio in the Palatinate Straße in Berlin.

The 1970s

In 1970, Göttsching Blues with Hartmut Enke, Wolfgang Müller and Volker Zibell a brief project named Steeplechase band. In the same year he founded with sink and Klaus Schulze, the band Ash Ra Tempel. The debut album of the same name was recorded with Conny Plank's Help in Hamburg and published in 1971. In the same year Schulze left the band again. The second album vibrations created in 1972 by Manuel Göttsching, Hartmut Enke and various guests as well as the album Seven Up, which was created in Switzerland with Dr. Timothy Leary and other guests. Join Inn, the third album from 1972, was written during the sessions for Walter Wegmüllers album Tarot. 1973 a concert was held at the Paris Theatre de I'Quest, which represented the international breakthrough for the band. However, now also finished Hartmut Enke his membership in Ash Ra Tempel and Manuel Göttsching was on his own. In the same year the fifth Ash -Ra Temple album Starring Rosi, Manuel Göttsching grossed with the guests Harald Grosskopf on drums, Dieter Dierks on bass and Rosi Müller appeared.

The following year Göttsching founded his own studio "Roma" and where he took his first solo album Inventions for Electric Guitar on, which was published in the same year. Together with Lutz Ulbrich 1975 he toured around England and France. Recordings of these concerts were used one year later by the French filmmaker Philippe Garrel 's film Berceau de cristal. The same soundtrack was released in 1993 on CD.

In 1976, the seventh Ash -Ra Temple album with the solo album New Age of Earth. It was first published in France and accompanied by Göttsching first solo tour. The British label Virgin Records released in 1977 the album New Age of Earth in the international market, but shortened the name to Ashra. In response to the publication took place in London's Regent 's Park, a live concert with Ashra Manuel Göttsching and Lutz Ulbrich on guitars and keyboards, and Harald Grosskopf on drums instead. The Ashra Trio toured for twenty concerts through Switzerland, France and Belgium. 1978 Göttsching third solo album Blackout was released worldwide under the name of " Ashra ". Göttsching played live music to Claudia Skoda's Fashion Show " catwalk " in Berlin's Egyptian Museum. The 1980s

The tenth album Belle Alliance, published in 1980, was the second of the Ashra -rehearsed trio albums. " The Dominatrix ", a project by Rosi Müller and Claudia Skoda, was produced in the same year by Manuel Göttsching. Ashra occurred in 1981 in the Spanish TV show " Musical Express " on. On December 12, 1981 Göttsching recorded the album E2 - E4, which was first published in 1984 under his name.

Barrage, Göttsching composition for percussion and orchestra, was listed at Claudia Skoda's eponymous fashion show in 1982 at the Museum of Fine Arts Berlin. The 1990s

In addition to a concert, which took place in front of the Cologne Cathedral, 1991 also created in 1977 solo album Dream & Desire was (recorded for Olaf Leitner's radio program in the station RIAS Berlin) and the resulting published in the years 1985 to 1987 album Tropical Heat.

In 1993, the fifteenth soundtrack album Le Berceau de Cristal was released, which was recorded in 1975 by Manuel Göttsching and Lutz Ulbrich. Early Water, a recording of Manuel Göttsching and Michael Hoenig from 1976, was published in 1995. The six CDs comprehensive set The Private Tapes with historical and unreleased recordings by Manuel Göttsching, Ashra and Ash Ra Tempel, appeared 1996. 1997 was a successful tour as a quartet by Japan with the new member Steve Baltes (keyboards, samples) ( documented on CD @ shra ) and a concert at the Herzberg Open Air Festival. Another concert took place in Nijmegen (The Netherlands ) under the KLEM Festival, which was released in 1998 on CD under the name hollandaise sauce.

In the Oscar - nominated film, Kurt Gerron carousel his wife Manuel Göttsching participated as actor Ben Becker and accompanied on the piano.

The 2000s

In April 2000, there arrived in London a Ash -Ra Temple reunion concert with Manuel Göttsching and Klaus Schulze. In the same year the recordings of the concert as Gin Rosé and a studio album of the two, entitled Friendship have been published. In July 2000, Ashra appeared in the Academy of Arts in Berlin. Year 2001, in Bologna Göttsching recording of the title Intimate with the Italian DJ Santos. To celebrate the release of the first solo album by Lutz Ludwig Kramer Being content (ex - Agitation Free ) supported Göttsching Kramer at a concert in Griesheim, Hesse. 2003 Manuel Göttsching composed the incidental music for FW Murnau 's silent film " Castle Vogelod " ( 1921) as a commissioned work for the Filmfest Braunschweig. The premiere took place on 30 October 2003 in Braunschweig State Theatre held another demonstration in 2006 there were in the Wroclaw Opera and in 2007 on Music & Film Festival in Jecheon, South Korea.

On March 25, 2005 Manuel Göttsching played with the ensemble Zeitkratzer at the Berlin Volksbühne "E2 - E4 " in a version for orchestra and guitar.

Göttsching solo debut in Japan took place on the anoyo festival at the foot of Mount Fuji on 29 April 2006. The Polish video artist Kinga helped him on stage with a live video mix. The second concert in Japan in 2006 was the live premiere of " E2 - E4 " on the Metamorphosis Festival in August. For the 25th anniversary of "E2 - E4 " on 12 December 2006, the European premiere of the track took place in the Berlin club Berghain.

In 2008 Göttsching gave concerts for the first time in the USA. The U.S. premiere of " E2 - E4 " took place during the " Wordless Music " series at Lincoln Center in New York. Other concerts were in the historic St. Mary's Church in Philadelphia and in the "Club Love" in New York. With his band Ashra Manuel Göttsching played in August 2008 on the Metamorphosis Festival in Japan in November 2008 was the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Goethe Institute in Beijing, the live premiere of the composition " E2 - E4 " held in Beijing.

2009, the film " The squire and the Communist" by Ilona Ziok movie premiere. Manuel Göttsching composed the music and produced the film.

Together with Steve Hillage, Elliott Sharp and Zhong Shouwang led Manuel Göttsching 2010 on the Metamorphosis Festival in Japan his composition " Inventions for Electric Guitar".
