Marcel Rohner (banker)

Marcel Rohner ( born September 4, 1964) is a Swiss manager and was between July 2007 and February 2009, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of UBS.

Life

Marcel Rohner studied economics at the University of Zurich. From 1990 to 1992, Rohner assistant at the Institute for Empirical Economic Research, University of Zurich. He was there his doctorate with a thesis on econometric a non-linear time series model for Swiss equity returns in 1992.

In 1992, he began his career at Union Bank of Switzerland. In 1993 he moved to the Swiss Bank Corporation in the field of investment banking. In 1995 he became Head of Market Risk Control Europe by Warburg Dillon Read. After the merger Rohner 1998 Head of Market Risk Control UBS in 2000 and Group Chief Risk Officer. From there, his rise continued in 2001 as Chief Operating Officer and Deputy CEO of the Private Banking division of UBS Switzerland. Rohner 2002 became a member of the Executive Committee and took over the management of Wealth Management & Business Banking. In January 2006 he was appointed Deputy CEO.

On 6 July 2007 Rohner has been appointed with immediate effect as the successor of Peter Wuffli as CEO of UBS. On 26 February 2009 Rohner was in turn replaced with immediate effect by the former Credit Suisse boss Oswald Gruebel Group.

Rohner is chairman of the real estate company Löwenfeld AG, member of the Giezendanner Transport AG, Vice President of Transport AG, Member and Board Committee of the bank Union Bancaire Privée.

Rohner lives in Aarau, is married and has two children.
