Margaret Mitchell (Scottish politician)

Margaret Mitchell (* November 15 1952 in Coatbridge ) is a Scottish politician and member of the Conservative Party.

Mitchell attended Coatbridge High School and Jordan Hill College. Then she received a bachelor's degree from the Open University and graduated from the University of Strathclyde in Law. Then she received a teaching diploma at the Hamilton Teacher Training. Between 1974 and 1990 she worked as a teacher.

Between 1999 and 2003, Mitchell was adviser to the Conservative leader David McLetchie and the politician James Douglas - Hamilton. In the Scottish Parliament elections in 1999 Mitchell ran as candidate of the Conservative Party for the constituency of Hamilton South. However, they could only reach the third highest number of votes. However, due to the election results, she moved as emissaries of the election Region Central Scotland one on the regional list in the newly created Scottish Parliament. In the following 2003 parliamentary elections and 2007 Mitchell ran again for Hamilton South, however, did not significantly increase their share of the vote. In both cases, she kept again as emissaries of Central Scotland her seat. As part of the constituency reform of 2011, the constituency was abolished in South Hamilton. Henceforth, candied Mitchell for the newly created constituency of Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse. In the parliamentary elections in 2011 Mitchell was once again only the third highest number of votes, but went up again on the regional list in the parliament.
